Georgian Thinker in an Interview with Taqrib News Agency: It is Necessary to Use Cultural Factors to Create Islamic Convergence
Sheikh Wajib Akbarov, the former head of the Muslim Union of Georgia, said that Muslim communities have always faced many tensions in the political, economic and security fields. There are many crises in Islamic countries now. These problems have emerged in the Islamic world and at the level of the relationship between the Islamic world and the non-Islamic world, especially in the cultural sphere.”
He added: “There are some problems within the region of the Islamic world that have various economic, social, political and religious reasons." These crises exist in the short and long term between two or more Muslim communities and countries, and their main cause is ethnic differences, conflicts of interest and political reasons. These differences have deeply been rooted in the hearts of Muslim nations. A large part of the reasons for these crises are due to the factors that have led to divergence and have led to divisions among Islamic countries and a wide-ranging crisis among Islamic societies.
He added: “One of the main reasons for the current problems of the Islamic world is the lack of convergence and unity of religions between Shiite and Sunni Muslims and their lack of unity with each other. Religious rifts are one of the most important rifts in the Islamic world today. This means that different religions within the discourse of Islam, including Shiites and Sunnis or their affiliated sects, have much in common in that they are rooted in Islamic principles.”
Sheikh Wajib Akbarov stated: “In order to create unity and convergence between different Islamic sects and overcome crises, it is necessary to re-examine the old Islamic books and documents. In this way, instead of Muslims relying on the disputed aspects, they can achieve the main commonalities. These commonalities have especially emphasized the issue of proximity and unity of the Islamic Ummah. However, these findings can be promoted and reflected in the form of new articles and products to be a step towards creating a mental background in Muslims with the aim of relying on unifying factors instead of divisions.”
